Run, Lift, Reuse

Morning Run & Noon Lifting
Since it's gotten so hot and humid this week, Jason and I opted to go for a run this morning. We got up at about 5:40 then hit the pavement. It was muggy, but at least it wasn't sweltering. The temperature was already at 68 degrees though if that gives you an indication of how warm it is this week. We did a fairly easy run - it was still early and all. It was really nice to just be out moving.

I did go home and do my weights at lunch as it was Upper with Plyo. Since I had run, I only did 4 plyo moves. The weights were done in 3 sets of 8 rep as supersets:

SS#1
Back - Double-arm rows
Biceps - Preacher curls

SS#2
Shoulders - Dumbbell shoulder press
Triceps - Overhead extension

SS#3
Chest - Chest flyes
Biceps - Hammer curls

Plyo moves:
Explosive running man
Wide jump ups on step
Plie jacks
Ski hops

It was a pretty good workout. I was able to increase the weights. I did hit failure with the hammer curls on 2 of the sets, but I maintained the heavier weight rather than dropping down.

Lazy = Leftovers
It was really nice not having anything to do in the way of workouts after work. I was able to go home and get some chores done, like laundry. Jason went and rode his bike after work, so he didn't get home until closer to 7. I just don't like eating dinner that late and was honestly being lazy. So I had some leftover "Creamy" Sundried Tomato & Veggie Pasta Salad over a bed of lettuce and spinach (just to change it up a little bit). I am typically not one to eat leftovers. But I seriously did not feel up to cooking. I decided to relax a little and do something girly like paint my nails (in between loads of laundry of course).

Do you like leftovers?

I love me some leftovers! I had some today for lunch! :)

It's hot and muggy here too...I take my dogs out for their walk bright n' early to beat the heat!

  4. Kelly @ Healthy Living with Kelly I really enjoy the fact that we can run together too to be honest. It's nice having one thing we can do like that together.

Kelsey @ Snacking Squirrel LOL. Luckily the only person who I would have to fight off of the leftovers is my hubby ;-)

Lindsey @ Cardio Pizza At least it's light early now right?

  5. I love getting my work outs done in the morning! I also LOVE leftovers. We change them up though. Salads, sandwiches...great time savers too!

  6. I love leftover soups/stews/chili, but I'm usually not the biggest fan of leftovers. I like freezing veggie burgers and what not though because they're great to have on hand.

  7. i usually through leftovers over a salad for the next day... or try to reuse the leftovers in a different way. when cooking for one, you need to be creative in reusing food!

  8. I loooove leftovers! Usually the food takes on a different character after being in the fridge a few hours. From cold pizza to sauce-soaked noodles.... it's definitely one of my favorite parts of eating :D

  9. leftover's are a busy mom's BFF! i ALWAYS make extra of anything cooked b/c it saves me that much time, for the next meal!

  10. If it's a fun meal I really like, then I love leftovers... just pop it in the microwave! But if I was just 'meh' about the food, then it usually just gets thrown out. Old/moldy/rotting food grosses me out more than anything (blood, guts, you name it), so I tend to shop frequently, buy fresh & in small quantities, and eat it right away.

  11. Whew that is warm for only 6 am! I couldn't imagine trying to run in midday heat. Good idea going early.

I love leftovers. Any reason to not have to cook a full meal makes me happy. Haha.

  12. Sarena @ The Non-Dairy Queen I also like getting my workouts done early, I just can't always seem to get going! I think I'd do better with leftovers if I changed them up, re-invented more often.

Krystina @ Organically Me I am completely with you on freezing the veggie burgers. I'll also freeze the soups and chili for a quick meal. Doesn't seem like leftovers then.

Kenzie @ A Healthy Purpose I agree with you about getting creative with it. I don't do that very often!

Evelyn @ Cheers to Healthy thanks so much for stopping by! Now cold pizza I can do! LOL

Averie @ Loves Veggies and Yoga Good point on making extras for saving time later. I should be all over that!

Alyson @ Nourished Fitness You always seem to have fun meals though!!

Tina @ Tina Bit of Faith Fitness and Fun I guess that's how I should really look at leftovers! LOL It's not like I just have loads of free time lying around ;-)

  13. Can't believe it was already muggy at 5:40! I just went on a run at about 9am and it was scorching. Sometimes leftovers taste better to me, especially pasta salads! I think the flavors get yummier :)

  14. That pasta salad looks AWESOME!

Leftovers... Depends. Restaurant leftovers, yes (LOVE them). Soup leftovers, yes. Anything else, pretty much no. I don't know why, but I am very bad at eating leftovers because I like so much variety in my diet! Luckily, leftovers usually get eaten for lunch by my boyfriend so the food doesn't go to waste! :)

Seriously, morning runs in spring/summer are the best. It totally sets the pace for the day - something I definitely needed yesterday too!

  17. Not a big fan of leftovers...pretty much only pasta & pizza :)
And don't ya just looooove (sarcasm) those laundry night!? ha!

  18. Leftovers rule at my house. It's just so much easier than cooking every night, especially for someone who doesn't enjoy cooking all that much. :) Also, the bf eats an enormous amount of food, so keeping up with that is exhausting.

  19. Megan @ The Oatmeal Diaries Oh, I do agree that there are some dishes that just beg to be leftovers since they get better the longer that sit.

Jess @ The Domestic Vegan My husband typically eats our leftovers for lunch too!

Jessica @ EatDrinkBreatheSweat There is something more calming about morning runs. Everything is still quiet.

Kris @ iheartwellness LOL - love it!

Holly @ Greek Yogurt and Apple Slices I can't seem to get away from laundry ever. I don't know how 2 people can produce so much of it...half of it's workout clothes though. Guess that's the answer ;-)

Eunice @ rainbwsnkittns I do enjoy cooking most nights and like to try new things. I guess that's why I'm not always fond of leftovers. Plus it's usually only enough for 1 person so the other still has to fend for themselves you know.

I love leftovers, and I especially love to make lots of extra food on Sundays so we can eat leftovers all week. That only happens when I'm in a cooking mood, but when I am, I'll make a soup or stew, and usually a rice and beans dish too.

  24. Erin @ The Healthy Apron Thanks girl!

Karen @ Fitness: A Journey Not a Destination I'm so glad you found me. I look forward to checking out your blog! Salads work for me!!

Kalli @ Fit and Forty Something We definitely have to motivate each other that early - some mornings are easier than others. Neither of us are morning people

Lisa @ Lisa's Foods on the Move If I'm going to make soup or chili, I definitely make enough to freeze, same with veggie burgers.

I don't know if your leftovers are lazy; they look like they were twice the work the first time around so that cancels it out!

leftovers = the best thing ever. they come in handy when you want a quick meal!

I hope this hot weather subsides for a while...I hate running first thing in the a.m but I know that is the only time I can since it gets too hot!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Katherine @ What About Summer I'll take that as a compliment!

The Rabbit Runner Oddly, I kind of like running in the morning, but maybe it's because we take it easier.

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
