PurpleStride, Weights & Gardein for Dinner

Support for a Friend
Before I dive into today's normal post, I wanted to take a minute to ask for your support. Some of you may remember this request from last year, for those not familiar, I have a dear friend, Lindsey, who's husband, Tommy, passed away after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer.

There is a 5k walk/run event this weekend that raises money for the pancreatic cancer research - PurpleStride Atlanta. If you are in the Atlanta area and are free this Saturday, I highly encourage you to particpate in the race. It's an event for a really good cause.

I know not many of you live in that area so another way to support Lindsey in memory of Tommy and to potentially help others is to make a donation. It is tax deductible. And if you are unable to donate yourself, I would appreciate it if you could please forward this to others.

Legs & Back
Today I ended up going with legs and back at the gym over a run. It was finally sunny, but really windy (again, it won't stop). I figured it wouldn't hurt to lay off running another day in hopes that my sciatic situation will improve.

I started with 15 minutes on the elliptical to warm up. Funny, I really don't like the elliptical, but 15-20 minutes is very doable and it allows me time to read my latest Oxygen or Muscle & Fitness Hers magazines.

I went with trisets of 3x8 unless noted:

Warmup set of squats - 10

TS#1
Squats
Plie squats
Double-arm row

TS#2
Swing lunges - 6
Calf raises - 15
Underhand barbell row

TS#3
Step ups - 6
Single-leg deadlifts
Pullovers - 10

I did some ab exercises as well. It was a pretty good workout. I am definitely starting to see some change in my legs, and am feeling stronger. Next week it's time to increase the weights.

Easy Dinner
When I went to the grocery store last, I had a coupon for Gardein. So, I picked up a package of Gardein's Herb Dijon Breasts.

I don't normally use pre-made foods as my go-to for dinner. I know homemade, whole foods are much more ideal. But sometimes they're nice to have on hand (especially when you get them on sale). And Gardein ingredients aren't terrible, much much better than many pre-made vegan and vegetarian foods. So I feel less bad about using them.

Tonight seemed like the perfect evening to take advantage of a quick, easy to make meal. I had some asparagus to use up along with some baby gold and sweet potatoes. I simply roasted all the veggies then prepared the cutlets per package direction.

Voila! This would be my version of semi-homade ;-)

Daily to Enjoy List:
  • Leg day (starting to like working legs again)
  • No rain
  • Easy dinner

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
