5 by the 5th February

5 by the 5th
If you recall, last month I did a post (Starting Over) mentioning the 5 by the 5th Virtual Run Series hosted by Laura at Mommy Run Fast. You can either do 5 miles or a 5K by the 5th of each month for 5 months.

I guess a month sometimes flies by, because it's already that time again to post my 5 by the 5th results for February.

Sunday morning Jason and I set out for a run. I had run my first double digit run since the blood clot on Saturday. Very very proud of that. It was definitely tough the last two miles, but I did it. Right now my muscle recovery is back on track after running.

However, my fatigue level is just off the charts. I could barely keep my eyes open after about 3pm.
Workouts just totally suck the energy from me. So while they're getting easier and recovery in terms of muscles is good, I can't seem to overcome the exhaustion or this freaking clavicle pain. Let's just say I slept very soundly.

So, back to Sunday. I really wasn't sure how many miles I was going to be able to do. I knew I wanted to at least do the 5K for the virtual race series. But I was feeling better than I expected and we got in 5 pretty speedy miles.

The weather was beautiful, mid 50's, sunny, although crazy windy from the northwest. It's wonderful wearing short sleeves in February I must say. I had on capris and was really warm. I should have known better of course.

Girl Time
After the run, I cleaned up and went shopping with my friend (and running partner). She wanted to find some new pants, and I never turn down a shopping opportunity. Plus, it was fun have some girl time together, not running for a change.

She was on the hunt for pants. She did find a really awesome pair, on clearance too, at White House Black Market. After that, pants were really funky - either horrid colors, crazy patterns or textures. I scored some sweet deals at DSW.
Jessica Simpson Booties for $35
These badboys for $50

We also decided to have lunch while we were out in that shopping complex. Shopping works up an appetite right? We chose a place called Big Orange. It's a burger joint, but they have amazing veggie burgers. It's usually crazy packed with waiting times, but maybe because of the Super Bowl and the fact that it was 2 pm, it was easy to get a table right away.

After all the fun, I did make myself be productive. I decided to do some food prep again. I made spaghetti sauce to use for spaghetti and "meatballs" as well as with a zucchini lasagna with a tofu ricotta (also prepped), pressed tofu, marinated half and baked the other for stir fry and a curried tofu and veggies, made rice for the stir fry and the curry, baked off spaghetti squash, and made homemade ciabatta again. Let's just say the house smelled really amazing.

So, a great Sunday all the way around. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend as well.

I Run to Feel Alive

Today is National Running Day . Guess what I did this morning? Cycling? Nope. Lifting? Nope. I bet you thought kickboxing right? Nope. Running? But of course! I actually sort of planned my running days this week just so I could participate this year. I didn't get to run last year and didn't even know about it the year before. But running has become such an integral part of my life and who I am, that I couldn't miss this year. Basically, I run to feel alive . It calms me, it helps me work through life, it's often a reason to get out of bed. No matter how tough a run is, it makes you feel ... period. My plan was to get in 5 miles (got in 5.5 actually). It was about 10 degrees warmer this morning and definitely more humid. That always makes for a tougher run. We decided to take a different route today. Well, it was really only a few streets over different, but still. The point is we took a different street. Sometimes that's good, sometimes not. I did realize th

Vacation Day 2 - Running, Reading, Relaxing

Running This morning I woke up a bit before 7 am. Of course, we had gone to sleep by 9....on vacation no less. I had thought I might try for an outdoor run, but the temps were already a humid 83 degrees by 8 am. So, I took my run to the treadmill. I had the Food Network to keep me occupied for a pretty decent 5 mile run. Running and watching tv isn't so bad ;-) I did 3 miles, then 4 1:00 athletic intervals then finished up another mile to round it out to and even 5. After stretching and rolling (yep, brought my TriggerPoint kit ), we packed up the cooler with lunch and headed down to the beach. Not a bad way to start the day if you ask me. Beach Time & Stair Cardio We set up our little umbrella camp and proceeded to just relax. I was excited to start one of the books I brought along with me: Alice Sebold's The Almost Moon . I've read her memoir, Lucky , and her first work of fiction, The Lovely Bones . . We were out for a few hours before taking a break.
